"Champions for Children"
Their Stories:
January 2008
As a Champion for Children, American Airlines Flight Service Base Webmaster, Frank Eschmann, walked through the cabin on Flight 156/4. He made his way back to the galley toting the generous gifts, and he noticed that the Blue Bag was quite heavy!
He counted the donations roughly and made an additional pass thanking everyone for their contributions. Frank continues, “ We had raised over $240, enough to buy a medical kit that can help save the lives of a 1000 people for 3 months.”
Then, a passenger approached him. The passenger was so impressed with the effort that he matched the sum of $244 and filled out a check to UNICEF for $250!
Frank said, “I can’t remember a time in the past 21 years that I have been flying where an act of generosity brought tears to my eyes. The passenger told me that someone was nice to him this morning and he was just passing it on.”
Frank would like to thank everyone who assisted and offer a very special thank you to a very special customer who matched the contributions!
November 2007

Mauro Ruiz, Lead Flight Attendant for American Airlines, has been collecting donations for UNICEF on his Argentina flights. Mauro reports that in November, United Nations Secretary-General Ki-moon was a passenger on his flight to Buenos Aires and that he gave $100 for Change for Good and each of his colleagues gave $50! The Secretary-General told Mauro that he was pleased that the crew was collecting for UNICEF and thanked them.
